Seven Day Challenge - Day 7

Day 7: Every Day Emergency – “Why Didn’t you Ask for this Sooner?”

    ·         I have powdered eggs, powdered milk, but NO powdered butter!

    ·         I need to get powdered butter!

    ·         I would have made the Magic Mix Pudding from everydayfoodstorage.net

    ·         Need to find more recipes for this kind of challenge just in case.

    ·         Read all about it: http://foodstoragemadeeasy.net/2009/09/14/day-7-tuesday/

Seven Day Challenge - Day 6

Day 6: Diet Disaster – “Healthy lifestyle”

    ·         That’s the first thing I grab for a quick snack or lunch for the kids: chips, turkey hotdogs and juice! I’m burned out!

    ·         Breakfast – Oatmeal

    ·         Lunch – Cheese quesadillas (that’s what I had on-hand) although I had broccoli in the fridge but forgot  all about it

    ·         Dinner – White rice and chick peas

    ·         Dessert – No dessert at the time

    ·         Read all about it: http://foodstoragemadeeasy.net/2009/09/13/day-6-monday/

Seven Day Challenge - Day 5

Day 5: Natural Disaster – “Earthquake!”

    ·         Wow, another “week” without water and we are in trouble!

    ·         I have a car shovel but not in the vehicle, got to keep it in the vehicle!

    ·         I have a chest freezer full of food that I bought on a case lot sale on post, got to use it wisely.

    ·         Don’t have an online back up for documents, but I do have and online back up for photos. Those are priceless.

    ·         I only have one bank that take care of our checking, savings, 529 plan, auto/renter’s insurance that if I need any documents I can immediately get it online.

    ·         I carry my passwords in my Palm with a back up on my would-be-crushed external hard drive. LOL

    ·         All my genealogy research (my latest hobby 7 yrs in the making) on paper would be lost in case of any disaster and that would really upset me. Although I have a membership in Ancestry.com were I can access all my uploaded photographs of very important people, censuses and drafts registrations.

    ·         I don’t have a generator for a long time with no electricity. Hmm!

    ·         With no cash on hand and food spoiled in freezer and fridge we are in serious problem, although have plenty of can food we would have any access to them because the place would be quarantine?

    ·         Read all about it:  http://foodstoragemadeeasy.net/2009/09/12/day-5-sunday/

Seven Day Challenge - Day 4

ay 4: Economic Crisis – “Money is Tight!”

    ·         I have (10) 5-gallon of water stored from Emergency Essentials that would probably last for 2-weeks, but not enough water if we are going to use them for doing dishes, toilet, etc.

    ·         We currently use internet cable and watch TV using a splitter and we get a couple of good channels (I doesn’t make any sense paying for 200 channels to only watch 5 of them) for $40/month.

    ·         Currently we don’t have telephone land line. We use Magic Jack for $20/yr.

    ·         We recently change our cellular plan for two lines: Everything Data Share 1500 Plan, Unlimited Nights for $129.99 plus taxes

    ·         In case of no electricity, we have plenty of board games.

    ·         In case of no electricity, still no portable burner!

    ·         I started making homemade bread like 7 months ago. We only buy store bought when we are traveling and for hot dogs.

    ·         Read al l about it: http://foodstoragemadeeasy.net/2009/09/11/day-4-saturday/

Seven Day Challenge - Day 3

Day 3: Every Day Emergency – “Dinner Guests?”

    ·         What? Boss is vegan?

    ·         Appetizer: No vegetables on hand or couldn't come up with a recipe. So, no appetizer L

    ·         Dinner: Lentils Soup

    ·         Side dish: Homemade fresh Parker House rolls

    ·         Dessert: Sour cream pound cake (made with dehydrated eggs and powdered milk) with raspberries sauce and a homemade Latte ;)

    ·         Read all about it: http://foodstoragemadeeasy.net/2009/09/10/day-3-friday/

Seven Day Challenge - Day 2

Day 2:  Pandemic – “Time for Quarantine”

    ·         Like it better than Day 1. I mostly stay at home, not problem with that.

    ·         I had medication for fever but if this is about stomach flu, plenty of water then.

    ·         I had medication for cold and flu symptoms.

    ·         Didn’t have any electrolytes for the kids in case of diarrhea.

    ·         Comfort foods: Got bread, dehydrated banana, powdered milk.

    ·         I had two 3-pack of Lysol and 3 jugs of Clorox wipes unopened to disinfect.

    ·         Plenty of paper towels, and toilet paper in storage.

    ·         Plenty of antibacterial soaps, hand sanitizers, Purex 3-1 (love it!) to wash clothes, antibacterial wipes, and surgical masks (maybe I should try a different type?).

    ·         I'm doing pretty good unless I'm missing something... hmm.

    ·         Read all about it: http://foodstoragemadeeasy.net/2009/09/09/the-7-day-challenge-day-2-thursday/

Seven Day Challenge - Day 1

I found out about this website and decided to participate in the Seven Day Challenge hosted by Food Storage Made Easy (http://foodstoragemadeeasy.NET).  September is the Emergency Awareness Month.  Here are the challenges and what I learned from it.  Was I prepared?

    Day 1: Natural Disaster – “It’s a Flood!”

    ·         Had a First Aid kit ready to go.

    ·         Didn’t have any kids’ clothes packed and ready to go. I was able to pack but for one day only. That was a setback. L

    ·         Had my emergency binder ready to go and with cash in it.

    ·         Had my 72 hours food ready to use.

    ·         Didn’t have a portable burner so that would be quite difficult if I had to used to heat food, another setback   L

    ·         Grabbed a blanket

    ·         Grab the pack of 24 bottles of water.

    ·         Didn’t have powdered milk at the time for the toddler.  L

    ·         We were not clear on where to meet with my husband during the “emergency”.

    ·         Vehicle had ¼ of gas in the tank, had to “run” to the gas station to fill up but the Unleaded pump was not working. Had to run to another gas station.  And I have an electronic message showing up in my vehicle that needed to change the engine oil soon.  Great!

    ·         Forgot to pack my external hard drives and laptop. Those would be ruined in case of a flood.

    ·         Of course, I grabbed my purse on my way out.

Faith 101: One Step Beyond Belief
    Dr. Frederick K.C. Price

Everywhere you see faith expressed in the Bible you see action. In fact, faith is an action. It's acting on what you believe. Many people confuse belief or believing with faith. Believing is a starting point, but if you stop there, you'll wind up with nothing.

I often use the example of a starving man being placed where food is and being asked if he believes that if he eats the food he will live. The man replies: "Do you think I am some kind of fool? Do you think I'm stupid or dumb? Certainly I believe that if I eat this food it will keep me from starving to death."

But he never lifts a hand to eat and dies on the spot. What the man believed was true. If he had eaten, it would have kept him from starving. But he died from starvation. Why? Because he never acted on what he believed. Believing is right, but it will never change the circumstances. Faith will change the circumstances.

Sponsor AdNow let's consider the centurion solider who Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, actually encountered.

Matthew 8:5-10: Now when Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion came to Him, pleading with Him, saying, "Lord, my servant is lying at home paralyzed, dreadfully tormented." And Jesus said to him, "I will come and heal him." The centurion answered and said, "Lord, I am not worthy that You should come under my roof. But only speak a word, and my servant will be healed. "For I also am a man under authority, having soldiers under me. And I say to this one, 'Go,' and he goes; and to another, 'Come,' and he comes; and to my servant, 'Do this,' and he does it." When Jesus heard it, He marveled, and said to those who followed, "Assuredly, I say to you, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel!"

Notice how faith was activated-by doing something, not only by believing something. If you have authority you have to exercise it. You cannot sit in an office with authority and just think. You have to actually do something, say something, write something, or send something before any orders will be followed. That is action.

The centurion recognized that Jesus was a man of authority. Jesus said, "I will come and heal him." The centurion said in essence, "Lord, I am not worthy that You should come under my roof, but speak a word and that will be the same as you coming."

In faith, action must be involved. Jesus said, "I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel!" That great faith was demonstrated by what the centurion said about his authority to command someone to go and come and do. If the centurion had just believed that Jesus could do something and yet never came to Jesus and appealed to Him, his servant would not have been healed.  The healing resulted from the centurion's faith action.

This is where people are missing it concerning faith. All over the world they are missing it, and what is so tragic is that some people act as if they know and won't receive any instruction. I can see in their eyes that they don't know. I see it because they do not have the results in their lives.

Faith will produce results over time. Anything of value takes time, and so it is with the principles of faith. It produces results over time. It is not an instant panacea. It is not a ripcord that you pull to bail you out of a problem. It is not an Aladdin's lamp that you can stroke and say, "Genie, Genie, come out and give me a new yacht."

You have to stay with faith. You have to make a commitment to the point that you burn all the bridges down behind you, and many people do not do that. They are trying faith. They want to see if it's going to work. Right there is doubt, and it has already crippled them. You have to be completely sold out. You have to be absolutely convinced that acting on the Word will produce results given time and commitment.

    God Can Use You
    Dr. Jack Graham

For land that has drunk the rain that often falls on it, and produces a crop useful to those for whose sake it is cultivated, receives a blessing from God. But if it bears thorns and thistles, it is worthless and near to being cursed, and its end is to be burned. Hebrews 6:7-8

It absolutely thrills me when I think that the God of heaven can actually use me! It blows my mind that I can be an instrument to accomplish His will...just like the land on which abundant rain falls.

Sponsor AdFaithful Christians are the tools God uses to do great things that have eternal value. He uses His followers as witnesses to the entire earth to tell everyone about Him and His love. When you stop to think about it, you and I can truly alter the course of history and the world!

Unfortunately, some people are not being used by God because they are either unwilling or unfaithful.

It is said that Leon Trotsky, who was a key part of the Communist revolution in Russia, actually attended a Sunday school class one day during a visit to America. But the teacher of the class was absent that morning, and did not bother to get a substitute. So no one taught the Bible that morning, and as far as anyone knows, Trotsky never attended church again.

What if someone had been faithful enough to show up that Sunday morning? It may have helped to alter history!

All that God asks of us is to make ourselves available to Him. Tell the Lord today that you want to faithfully serve Him, to be like the land in today's verse that is a blessing to others and is blessed by God as a result.

Who knows what wonderful things might happen when you are faithful to the Lord!

ALL THAT GOD ASKS IS FOR YOU TO MAKE YOURSELF AVAILABLE TO HIM!
